Valdosta Running Club

Recently, the GMC Valdosta Running Club participated in the 2006 Disney
World Marathon Weekend. Saralynn Paige and Rebecca Odell participated in
the Half Marathon distance of 13.1 miles on Saturday January 7. This was
the first race of this distance for both runners. The course took the
runners through Epcot and the Magic Kingdom before returning to the large
sphere known as Spaceship Earth located at the entrance of Epcot. More than
16,000 runners began the race at 6:00am and all finishers received a Donald
Duck medal.

Leslie Hafer, Billie Washburn and Melissa Daugherty completed the full
marathon distance of 26.2 miles on Sunday January 8. The course extended
through all four Disney Theme parks before returning to Epcot for the
finish. Daugherty, who is also a member of the VSU Cross Country team
completed the full distance is 3 hours and 36 minutes. A very impressive
time for her fist race of this distance.

Hafer was also a first -timer for the distance and began the race with the
goal of finishing within the official time of not more than 7 hours. A goal
she was able to meet with the help of her running coach, Billie Washburn.
More than 14,000 runners began the race and all finishers received the
coveted Mickey Mouse medal.
