Ethics Bowl
2022 National Ethics Bowl Competition at Georgia Military College
November 19, 2022
Georgia Military College is excited to host the Two-Year College Ethics Bowl National Championship at the Main Campus on Saturday, November 19th, 2022!
GMC has a proud history of our students participating in GMC and National Ethics Bowls throughout the years. We take great pride in our Ethics Bowl participants and how they embody the school’s philosophy of “Character Above All” as the Ethics Bowl has two fundamental purposes: “the development of ethical understanding in connection with complex, ambiguous, and difficult to resolve issues; and the fostering of key virtues associated with democratic deliberation.”
In advance of the competition, each team receives on average twelve cases approved by the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics (APPE) for Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl (IEB) competitions that address prominent practical and professional ethical issues. At the Ethics Bowl competitions, a moderator then poses questions suggested by the various cases. A panel of judges encourages competing teams to justify their positions during timed rounds; concurrently, each judge rates team responses according to rigorous scoring criteria including intelligibility, focus on ethically relevant considerations, avoidance of ethical irrelevance, and deliberate thoughtfulness.
The 2022 National Ethics Bowl Competition will be held in Milledgeville, GA at the Main Campus at Georgia Military College. GMC has secured a reserved block of lodging for Ethics Bowl participants at the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott (2631-A N. Columbia St., Milledgeville, GA 31061). 50 rooms have been reserved for November 18th & 19th, 2022 under “GMC National Ethics Bowl.” To secure the discounted rate, patrons should book rooms directly through their front desk at 478-452-5202.
