Admiral Michael G. Mullen Offers Inaugural Keynote Address at NewDayUSA Center of Leadership at Georgia Military College

Admiral Michael G. Mullen Offers Inaugural Keynote Address at NewDayUSA Center of Leadership at Georgia Military College

GMC students and community preview state-of-the-art leadership facility designed to convene renowned experts in business, military, diplomacy, sports, and entertainment.

Admiral Michael Glenn Mullen (USN, ret.), who served as the 28th Chief of Naval Operations from 2005–2007 and as the 17th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for Presidents Bush and Obama from 2007–2011, offered the inaugural keynote address at the newly-opened NewDay USA Center of Leadership at Georgia Military College.

“It is our highest honor and privilege to welcome Admiral Mullen to the NewDay USA Center of Leadership at Georgia Military College,” said Rear Admiral Thomas C. Lynch (USN, ret.), Executive Chairman of NewDay USA and co-chair of the NewDay USA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of NewDay USA. “Admiral Mullen’s impeccable character, his vast knowledge of the geopolitical landscape, and his incredible leadership skills are exactly what we had hoped to showcase through the Center of Leadership, and we look forward to hosting similarly exciting and inspiring events at this facility for many years to come.”Speaking before a packed audience in the 754-seat auditorium that included Georgia Military College Cadets and Preparatory students and local community and civic leaders, Admiral Mullen emphasized the importance of cultivating the next generation of dedicated, innovative, and mission-driven leaders.

“I tried to give them a framework of values and principles to create guardrails and to also guide them in decisions they make,” said Admiral Mullen when referring to the remarks he shared during his keynote address. “I was really thrilled, one, when I got invited because I have a relationship with NewDay USA and they invited me to do this, and they have been terrific in investing here [at GMC] in terms of time, people, and resources to really help improve the overall institution and they have done that. I was also thrilled to see that General Caldwell was the President because I worked with him very closely in Iraq and Afghanistan when I was serving on active-duty as Chairman and he was one of the signature officers I met and knew and depended on and trusted in very difficult environments … In many ways his leadership here [at GMC] is an opportunity for him to take his skills … and apply it to the future generations, and he’s having a huge impact.”

“Georgia Military College is a leadership institute so to have Admiral Michael Mullen visit GMC and engage with our Cadets and community was incredible,” Lieutenant General William B. Caldwell, IV (USA, ret.), President of Georgia Military College. “This speaker series embodies Georgia Military College’s core values and serves as a testament of our commitment to fostering leadership and character development among our students and in our community. This speaker series is not just about what happens at the NewDay USA Center of Leadership, it’s about the ripple effect it creates in our lives, our communities, and beyond. It’s about empowering each other to reach new heights and make a lasting impact in the world.”

The state-of-the-art, 28,937-square-foot Center of Leadership features a 754-seat theatre complete with a Broadway-capable fly system, full orchestra pit with live feeds, costume shop, and multiple dressing rooms, as well as several classrooms for Georgia Military College and Preparatory School students to study the Fine Arts. This center not only provides GMC students with a facility to create state-of-the-art Fine Arts productions, but will host world-renowned leaders for the NewDay USA Leadership Speaker Series, off-Broadway productions, concerts, and more. GMC and NewDay USA will host an official ribbon-cutting and grand opening later this year.

NewDay USA Founder and CEO Rob Posner said, “We’re proud to host the first Speaker Series event at the Center of Leadership. It’s a tremendous honor to have Admiral Mullen serve as our inaugural speaker and visit with so many members of the GMC community. We couldn’t be more excited to see the vision for this facility come to life after so many years of planning, and we are looking forward to celebrating the official grand opening at the end of this summer with even more highly-respected guest speakers and inspirational leaders.”
