Senior Shanterra Grable and Teacher Kim Leben Recognized as STARs

Georgia Military College Prep School senior Shanterra Grable was recognized as a top academic scholar in Baldwin County during the Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program held Thursday, February 25, 2010, and hosted by the Milledgeville Chamber of Commerce. Shanterra Grable is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, and the GMC Bulldog Marching Band Flag Corps. She is the recipient of the 2010 University of Georgia Certificate of Merit Award, the GMC Character of the Week Award, and has been on the Principal’s List making straight A’s for four years. Shanterra named LTC Kim Leben her STAR teacher stating that she helped her achieve her goals in mathematics. “When I came to GMC in the 9th grade, I told Mrs. Leben I wanted to take AP Calculus during my senior year; she worked out the opportunity for me to take an additional math course in order to fulfill my goal. She assured me that she would be right there with me every step of the way and that I wouldn’t be alone. I couldn’t have done it without Mrs. Leben’s encouragement and support.” After graduation, Grable plans to attend Georgia State University and major in finance with a minor in biology. She then plans to go on to medical school at Emory University to become an anesthesiologist. Grable’s motivators are her parents and she appreciates them for accepting “nothing but excellence.” “I will continue to strive to do my best to make my parents proud and become the successful individual I want to become. I always want to do my best at something no matter what the task. My drive for success motivates me to excel.” Shanterra is the daughter of Herbert and Linda Grable of Sparta, Ga.
