JC Softball Wins

GMC Softball traveled to Aiken this past weekend to compete in their first tournament of the season. The Bulldogs got off to a rough start and dropped their first two games on Friday night. Saturday morning would prove to be much different with the Bulldogs coming out strong to beat Gadsden 11 to 3 and then later in the evening beating Stanly 12 to 0. Sunday morning the Bulldogs took revenge against Gordon college who had beaten them Friday night. The Bulldogs won the game 7 to 0 which placed them in the championship game for their bracket versus nationally ranked Spartanburg Methodist College. Spartanburg led 1 to 0 most of the game until the Bulldogs took the lead in the 6th when freshman Korie Wilson hit a solo homerun over the left center fence. Spartanburg would regain the lead right after but then the Bulldogs would tie the game thanks to a single down the right field line by Sarah Ray which scored Kayla Cooper from second. The game was forced into extra innings and Ray shut Spartanburg down from the mound. GMC loaded the bases and freshman Lizzy Edwards hit a walk off single over second base to win the game and the bracket for GMC. Sarah Ray led the Bulldogs at the plate batting .652% for the weekend with 15 hits and 5 runs scored. Kasey Durden batted .500% with 9 hits and also pitched 2 wins for the Bulldogs. Next home game will be March 2nd against Nationally ranked Darton College
