Prep Real Drill Team Captures 11 Medals

Georgia Military Prep Real Drill Team Captures 11 Medals On Saturday, 13 Mar 2010, The GMC Prep School Real Drill Team, coached by Sergeant First Class Van Dexter Rutledge, competed in the Area 4 Regional Drill Meet which was held at Evans High School near Augusta, Georgia. After strenuous performances and scrutinized judging, the Real Drill Team captured 11 medals. Three of the medals were won in the Male Individual Exhibition category. C/LTC Kip Goss placed first, C/MAJ Rick Griffin placed 3rd and C/1SG Zach Guyton placed 4th. C/SSG Caroline Hooks, GMC’s only female competitor, placed 3rd in the Female Individual Exhibition category. GMC had 3 teams compete in the Male Dual Exhibition category and all 3 came out as winners. First place went to the dual of C/LTC Kip Goss and C/1LT Quinton Weekly, C/CPL Nick Nolan and C/PVT Tyler Pennington came in 3rd, and C/MAJ Rick Griffin and C/1SG Zach Guyton placed 4th. The final competition of the day was the “Knockout Drill”. Drill team commander C/MAJ Rick Griffin won 4th out of 62 in this event. Special recognition goes out to GMC’s 2nd Battalion Commander, C/LTC Kip Goss, for achieving double golds. (First place in two categories) Another highlight of the day was C/PVT Tyler Pennington showing how to execute with precious and great poise as a freshman (9th grader) and placing at his first ever drill meet. The Real Drill Team follows the acronym “RIFLE” which stands for R= Respect and loyalty I= Identify the plan F= Function as a team L= Lead by example E= Execute with precious The “Real Drill Team” will now travel to Fort Gordon on Saturday, March 27, to compete in the Georgia State Drill Meet.
