Macon Symphony Orchestra brings movie music to Milledgeville

Macon Symphony Orchestra brings movie music to Milledgeville Macon Symphony Orchestra will perform the music of America’s most memorable movies during its annual performance in Milledgeville, sponsored by Georgia College and Georgia Military College. Crowd-pleasing melodies will remind the audience of their favorite scenes of the classics as the symphony “Goes to the Movies” at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 1, in Russell Auditorium on the Georgia College campus. “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace” will transform Russell Auditorium into a space odyssey and set the stage for familiar melodies from “How the West Was Won,” “Gone with the Wind,” “Forrest Gump” and “Titanic.” “Once again we are pleased to bring the Macon Symphony Orchestra to our community with what will be a popular program of movie music magic,” said Georgia College President Dorothy Leland. “We are honored to host such exceptionally talented musicians.” Victor Vallo, Chair of the Georgia College Department of Music, will appear as a guest conductor, leading the orchestra through “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” “The Raiders March, which includes Marian’s Love Theme, are both wonderful musical examples of how the power of John Williams’ music can both transport an audience to another place while allowing their emotions to transcend at the same time” said Dr. Vallo. Tunes from “Patton,” “Schindler’s List,” “MacArthur” and “The Pink Panther” will add to the evening of reminiscing. The performance will conclude back in space with “Star Trek Through the Years.” The symphony concert is part of the continued commitment by Georgia College and Georgia Military College to bring the fine arts to the community. Through the leadership of university president Leland and GMC President, MG Peter J. Boylan, USA (Ret.), the Macon Symphony performs in Milledgeville each year with the colleges alternating hosting and promoting the concert. “Music is an important part of the broader liberal arts mission our two schools provide,” Boylan said. “”Providing an opportunity for the entire community to share a musical performance of the caliber of the Macon Symphony is a wonderful extension of our campuses.” General admission: $10; students: $5 with valid ID and no charge for children under 12.
