GMC Women’s Soccer Pulls Huge Upset With 4-2 Win Over Darton St.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia Military College women’s soccer team pulled off a huge upset Wednesday night as the Lady Bulldogs defeated No. 1 Darton State College 4-2 at Robertson Field.

GMC took a 2-1 halftime lead and carried that momentum right through the second half to secure the victory over Darton State, which had just been picked as the top team in this week’s National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) soccer rankings.

But GMC played with poise and confidence on this night as the Lady Bulldogs never trailed and held off a hard-charging DSC squad that was undefeated coming into the contest.

The two teams had played back on August 27 and DSC had taken an 11-0 win with relative ease.

However, GMC was on its game in the rematch and the Lady Bulldogs got solid play across the field.

Goals came from Skyler Young (Conyers, Ga.) and Brooke Daniels (Eatonton, Ga.) in the first half as GMC took the 2-1 lead at the break.

Daijah DeRamus (Decatur, Ga.) got her seventh goal of the season less than a minute into the second half on an assist from Tori Shelton (Conyers, Ga.) to push the GMC advantage to 3-1.

Then after DSC cut the lead to 3-2, Hayleigh Smith (Athens, Ga.) found the back of the net with only 7:57 to go in the game with an assist from Cassidy Steele (Jefferson, Ga.) that gave GMC a two-goal lead again.

Rachel Boohar (Oxford, Pa.) came up with 28 saves in goal to preserve the win as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 3-7-2 overall and 2-5-2 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA).

DSC, which had allowed just three goals all season, falls to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in GCAA play.
