GMC Welcomes U.S. Service Academies Hopefuls

The 141st Georgia Military College Corps of Cadets will begin the new school year with the most Service Academy Scholars in the history of the program with 45, an increase from last year’s 24 Scholars. Currently, GMC is an affiliated preparatory school for the United States Military Academy – West Point, the United States Coast Guard Academy, the United States Naval Academy – Annapolis, and the United States Air Force Academy. This week, GMC welcomed 47 Service Academy Scholars: 21 Coast Guard, 9 Army, 6 Navy, 3 Coast Guard Self-Prep, and 1 Self-Prep for more than one Academy.

As an affiliated preparatory school, GMC prepares candidates selected by any Service Academy for the academic, physical, military, and character development skills they will need to be successful when they attend a Service Academy.

Colonel Nelson Kraft, Executive Director of the GMC Milledgeville and Madison campuses, says he’s eager to get the school year started.

“While this program as excelled for years at GMC, never before have we had four United States Service Academies represented,” Kraft said. “Young Americans from all across the U.S. have descended on our Milledgeville campus with one central goal in mind – to prepare for their future attendance at a U.S. Service Academy. This Preparatory program really aligns well with our GMC motto, ‘Start Here… Go Anywhere!’ It’s going to be a very exciting school year.”

President of Georgia Military College, Lieutenant General William B. Caldwell, IV, says he’s excited about the growth of the Service Academy Program

“We are making history at GMC this year in our Service Academy Preparatory Program,” Caldwell said. “We have the cream of the crop in Milledgeville right now, and soon they’ll hit the ground running as school begins. They have one year to prove themselves worthy of a Service Academy appointment, and I’m so excited to see how they’ll work to achieve that goal this year.”

Georgia Military College welcomed the Service Academy Scholars this week, and they’ll begin classes with the rest of GMC’s students on August 26, 2019.
