GMC to host GCAA Softball Tournament

(GMC's Lady Bulldogs are looking forward to being back to back GCAA tournament champions.)

GMC is excited to host their first GCAA Softball Tournament at Couch Field on April 27-29. Nearly 130 players and coaches will be in Milledgeville for the three day tournament, staying in various local hotels and visiting our restaurants. The teams competing in this year’s tournament are:

Georgia Military College
Georgia Highlands College
Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College
East Georgia State College
South Georgia State College
Gordon State College

GMC’s Head Softball Coach, Ashley Bunn, says her team is looking forward to being back to back GCAA tournament champions. “We’re excited to host it here and play on our own field,” said Bunn. “It’s nice to be able to play somewhere that we are comfortable with and know the field. We’re looking to repeat from last year and we’ve got the team to be able to do it. We just need the support from the community.”

GMC’s Softball team went undefeated last year in the tournament and they’re looking to continue their streak. They’ve had an exceptional season this year with a record of 40-14 and a conference record of 17-9. GMC’s Center Fielder, Ansley Wilbanks, and GMC’s Second Baseman, Jordan Crews, say their team has even more experience now to win the tournament again.

“I’m hoping we can get back to the national championship in Utah because it was a lot of fun,” said Ansley Wilbanks. “Last year no one really knew what to expect, we were just playing. This year we know what we’re capable of.”

“I feel as if our whole team has worked very hard to try and get back to where we were,” said Jordan Crews. “I’m glad our hard work is finally paying off.”

Last year, Jordan Crews made the First Team All-Region nomination and made the All-Tournament team for the conference last year. Ansley Wilbanks also made the First Team All-Region, she’s GMC’s first ever Softball All-American, and was the GCAA 2016 Player of the Year.

The games will start at 11:00 a.m. each day.
