GMC Cornerback, D.J. Daniel, Commits to the University of South Carolina

GMC Cornerback, D.J. Daniel, Commits to the University of South Carolina

D.J. Daniel is entering his second year in Georgia Military College’s football program but the cornerback from Griffin, Ga. is already looking ahead to the future. He is widely regarded as the number one junior college cornerback prospect in the nation and finalized over thirty offers down to a group of four: University of Georgia, University of Alabama, University of Kentucky, and University of South Carolina, which Daniel verbally committed to on Thursday, August 16, 2018.

Daniel says his experience at Georgia Military College gave him the chance to grow not only as an athlete, but grow his character as well.

“GMC really taught me how to be disciplined,” Daniel said. “What I need to do, what I have to do – not even just on the field but off the field too. I really feel like this school has played a big role in my success.”

Georgia Military College Head Football Coach and College Athletic Director, Bert Williams, says it’s an exciting transition to see his players when they first come to GMC, to when they leave.

“Most of the guys that come in here are deficient in some area and most of the time it really comes down to focus and application of the skills have, whether it be in the classroom or on the field,” Williams said. “Almost all of our kids are capable of getting to a level of success, but it’s being able to see that transition to when you can tell something clicks in them, and they then understand what they have to do to put themselves in a position to be successful. That’s really a gratifying moment when you know these young men are ready to go out on their own. It’s excited to see D.J. move forward in this new adventure, and even more excited to have him as a part of our team at GMC for his last year here.”

Daniel says the University of South Carolina has always been a frontrunner in making his decision. He says it was the way Coach Tavares Robinson, Defensive Coordinator at the University of South Carolina, approached him is what made all the difference.

“He came to one of our practices and came straight forward to me – not even trying to sell me something – but he just came up and told me what I needed to correct in order to be successful,” Daniel said. “Just him coming up to me and approaching me completely differently than the way the other coaches did, that really played a big factor.”

Congratulations to D.J. Daniel on his commitment to the University of South Carolina! The GMC Bulldogs are back in action playing Navarro College on August 23, 2018.
