GMC-Augusta Student Sworn In at U.S. Attorney’s Office
A self-described introvert, Naujae Phillips’ character, classroom participation and good-natured personality would cause you to suspect anything else. He was born and raised in Columbus, GA. He is prior military, serving for five years as an Intelligence Analyst. He has a seven-year-old son, whom he is extremely proud of. He enjoys fine arts, sports and precision shooting.
When describing his experience as a Paralegal Studies major at GMC-Augusta, Naujea said, “I appreciate the wide range of students I’ve met at GMC. The student body encompasses all age groups with most coming from very different backgrounds. This characteristic creates a very diverse learning environment. By way of GMC’s QEP (Quality Enhancement Plan), students learn critical thinking. GMC encourages students to infer, evaluate, and analyze material.”
Naujea’s well-rounded background and his experience at GMC-Augusta have no doubt been molding and preparing him for his future. What does Naujea want to do? “I plan on becoming a Criminal Defense Attorney. As a child, I’ve always been interested in law and politics. Law school will be the first step of turning a childhood dream into an actualized reality.”
At GMC-Augusta, we firmly believe in helping students to “Start Here…Go Anywhere”. In Naujae’s case, he said, “An email from Dean Montgomery (GMC-Augusta’s Regional Assistant Director and Dean of Students) stating a part-time opening in the United States Attorney’s Office sparked my interest. Balancing college and parenting could become tricky with a full-time job. However, a part-time job in my desired career field was the perfect situation.”
Naujae was sworn in at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia as a student trainee, and will serve as an administrative assistant in the Augusta USAO office during the next year. While it’s not unusual for U.S. Attorney’s Offices to have student trainees, it is significant for the student to be sworn in as a Department of Justice employee during his term. U.S. Attorney Bobby L. Christine administered the oath of office to Phillips on 10/13. U.S. Attorney Christine, who also serves as a Brigadier General in the U.S. Army National Guard, is a distinguished graduate of GMC.
Naujea shared, “GMC has provided me with an opportunity of a lifetime. Before this internship, I didn’t know much about the USAO. Now, I’m an DOJ employee within the USAO. All thanks to God and GMC-Augusta!”
