Georgia’s Lieutenant Governor Appoints Advisory Member to Georgia Military College Board of Trustees

Georgia’s Lieutenant Governor, Burt Jones, has appointed Senator Rick Williams as an advisory member to the Georgia Military College Board of Trustees. Designated as a public authority in the state of Georgia, GMC has served Georgia as a unique educational institution for over 143 years. Through legislative acts of 1920 and 1922, the school was designated a corporate body with a publicly elected Board of Trustees. The Georgia General Assembly provided for a seven-member board to be elected every four years and represent each city council district. Georgia Military College serves students across the state of Georgia at the Main Campus in Milledgeville, satellite locations across the state, and in the Global Online Leadership College, therefore seeking input and advice from state lawmakers is important for the future of the institution. GMC’s Board of Trustees approved changes to its by-laws to allow for advisory members to assist in influencing decisions for the school on a state level.

“On behalf of the Georgia Military College Board of Trustees, we are grateful to Lieutenant Governor Jones for appointing a legislative advisory member to our Board and seeing the value of this position for Georgia Military College,” said GMC Board of Trustees Chairman, George Hogan. “Having Senator Williams serve in this capacity on our Board will bring a state-wide perspective that will help shape the important decisions we make for the future of Georgia Military College. We are grateful for Senator Williams’ leadership in our local community and at the state level and look forward to his advice and guidance in the years to come.”

Senator Williams represents the 25th District of Milledgeville and has been a leader in the community for many years. He is the Chairman of the Senate Retirement Committee and serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Ethics Committee. He also sits on the Higher Education, Public Safety, and State and Local Governmental Operations Committees in the Senate.

Senator Williams was sworn in as a GMC Board of Trustees Advisory member at the quarterly meeting on June 20, 2023.
