Columbus Campus Graduates Travel to Milledgeville for Commencement Ceremony

Georgia Military College Columbus Campus Graduates Travel to Milledgeville for Commencement Ceremony On June 10, 2011, students from Georgia Military College Columbus Campus made the trip to Milledgeville, Georgia to be recognized for accomplishing a significant achievement in their lives, graduating from college with their associate’s degree. With the backdrop of the Old Capitol Building, General Eric Shinseki, current Secretary of Veterans Affairs, spoke to the graduates about their futures and three ideals students should follow in their lives: to continue their quest for knowledge, be determined to succeed, and to always choose the harder right instead of the easier wrong. Blaine Valentini, one of the two students recognized as a Distinguished Graduate at the commencement ceremony, stated, “It was gratifying to be recognized by General Shinseki as a Distinguished Graduate. I know that graduating from Georgia Military College is a great achievement in my life, and there is still a lot more hard work yet to come.” The graduates included the following students from Columbus: Charles Bailey, Veda Brown, Jennifer Clark, Tisha Cole, Quire Cook, Shauntae Davis, Japheth Edwards, Natashia Fabec, Alexis Fortson, Brandi Humphrey, Chenita Joiner, Marquitta Kennedy, Chelsea King, Sabrina Leonard, Carolyn Lowe, James McCann, Chadwick McDougald, Tracie Moore, Joseph Pate, Mildretta Peterson, Chiquita Powell, Jessica Ray, Tammie Redding, Alanzo Rodriguez, Darien Sanders-Greene, Nepri Smith, Nina Strong, Falana Tatum, Frederick Thomas, Robbie Thomas, Cydrena Torbert, Bettina Trimble, Blaine Valentini, Molly Williams, Jamal Williams, Robert Winter, and Matthew Workman. Georgia Military College, the only public liberal arts junior college located in Columbus, is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees. Washington Monthly recently ranked Georgia Military College as the best 2-year college in Georgia/Alabama, and 12th best in the nation. Some of the majors offered are business administration, criminal justice, education, homeland security, pre-nursing, and psychology. Enrollment for the 2011 term is currently underway.
