Georgia Military College Partners with City of Milledgeville and Woodard & Curran to Launch Water Technology Degree Program

Georgia Military College Partners with City of Milledgeville and Woodard & Curran to Launch Water Technology Degree Program

Georgia Military College (GMC) is proud to announce the launch of its new Water Technology Degree program, in collaboration with the City of Milledgeville and Woodard & Curran through the GMC Partners Network. This program is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue careers in the rapidly growing field of water technology.

The Water Technology Degree program was developed in response to the growing demand for skilled professionals in the water industry. The City of Milledgeville has been instrumental in pioneering this program and will offer career opportunities to program students and graduates.

“The ability to meet the need for Water and Wastewater Treatment Operator locally and in the State is extremely important, said Hank Griffeth, City Manager of the City of Milledgeville. “The occupation is estimated to need to fill 320 jobs annually in the State between now and 2027. Many of these jobs will come about due to attrition through retirements and the need to train new operators is crucial. The ability to do that locally and through a partnership with Georgia Military College will assist the City of Milledgeville to fill these openings in our community.”

The Water Technology Degree program at GMC is a two-year associate degree program that will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices of water treatment and distribution. GMC’s Partners Network participant, Woodard & Curran, is providing support in developing the curriculum and serving as subject experts.

“Woodard & Curran’s partnership with Georgia Military College reflects a shared interest in managing and protecting not only our State’s water resources but those of the nation for existing and future generations. Said, Corey Babb, Woodard & Curran Environmental Consulting Client Manager. “Combining GMC’s leadership with Woodard & Curran’s commitment to sharing our expertise, will create an accessible, affordable pathway for young people to pursue rewarding careers in water and wastewater operations. At the same time, we are supporting the development of a robust workforce for an industry that is critical to all aspects of our society and economy. I can’t think of a more suitable way to fulfill our commitment to the communities we serve and am excited to share our expertise with the next generation of water professionals.”

The Water Technology Degree Program will educate students about water quality, water testing and analysis, treatment processes, and water distribution systems. The program and partnership will create a pipeline of skilled professionals for the water industry, while also supporting economic growth and development in the region.

“We are excited to have built this connection with the City of Milledgeville and Woodard & Curran through our Partners Network, said Lieutenant General William B. Caldwell, IV, USA (Ret), President of Georgia Military College. “This is a great example of how the Partners Network can bridge industry and education to benefit both students and the community. We all share a common goal to prepare these students for successful careers in the water industry and meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in this field.”

The Water Technology Degree program is now accepting applications for Fall 2023. To learn more about the program, visit the Georgia Military College website, www.gmc.edu.
