34 attend Junior ROTC Cadet Leadership Camp

During the first week of June, 34 cadets from GMC Prep School attended Junior ROTC Cadet Leadership Camp (JCLC) at Riverside Military Academy. There were over 400 cadets from 20 high schools attending JCLC. The cadets participated in several different training events including rappelling, leaders reaction course, obstacle course, canoeing down the Chattahoochee river, air rifle marksmanship, drown proofing, cadet challenge physical fitness test, and training at the mountain Ranger camp on Mount Yonah. Throughout the camp, cadets were placed in leadership positions and evaluated as a leader. On Friday, the entire camp participated in a camp run followed by a squad drill competition and Chinook helicopter rides from the GA National Guard. During the graduation and awards ceremony Sarah Poole was recognized as the top female cadet at JCLC, and for achieving the highest female cadet challenge PT test score. Andrew Kirkland received first place in individual marksmanship; Seth Lowery was recognized for placing second in individual marksmanship; and Hunter Newell received third place in squad marksmanship. All 34 GMC Prep participants were recognized during a special ceremony on August 22, 2010 in the Goldstein Center for the Performing Arts.
