Georgia Military College Prep School recently announced its representatives for the Youth Leadership Baldwin Class of 2012. Katie Bershadsky, Lily Edmonson, Kailey Calhoun, Macy Lee, and Ian Bailey were chosen from a group of over 30 members of the GMC Prep junior class who applied for this distinct honor. COL John Thornton, GMC Prep Principal said these students were chosen based on their accomplishments, class ranking, service projects and an essay about why they wanted to participate. He said, “We are very proud of each of these fine students and are confident that the skills they learn during this year will make them more productive citizens.” GMC’s juniors will join representatives from Baldwin High School, John Milledge Academy, Education Brings Leadership and Achievement Academy, and Sinclair Christian Academy for a number of real-world experiences throughout of the course of the school year ranging from a tour of the Georgia Power plant to spending a day in Atlanta to meet Governor Nathan Deal and tour the Georgia Supreme Court. Those selected for Youth Leadership Baldwin are given an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of how their county and state operate through a range of activities highlighting a variety of components of local and state government and institutions. The class will learn about civic affairs, community involvement, leadership, team building and economic development during the monthly sessions which begin September 23, 2012.
