SEARC#2 rifle results
During the Georgia Military College Alumni Weekend, fifty shooters and coaches were on campus, as the GMC Rifle Team hosted The Southeastern Air Rifle/Smallbore Rifle competition, at the Parnell Ruark Athletic Complex. North Carolina State University and Clemson transformed the rifle range into electronic scoring which added to the excitement and pressure for shooters, coaches, parents and alumni. North Carolina State University took top honors with a team score of 2312 out of 2400 points. Maddie Pike of NCSU was top shooter in both competitions. Her air rifle score was a 587 out of a possible score of 600. In smallbore rifle, she had a score of 582. The Citadel took second with a score of 2272 and nineteen points behind them was North Georgia College State University with a 2253. Georgia Military College took fourth with a team score of 2139. Michael Roberson led the team with a score of 540. Each shooter had six targets of a possible 100 points. Michael had scores of 91, 89, 89, 93, 91, and 87 in the standing position. Markeshia Burton shot a 538 with scores of 90, 93, 91, 92, 87, and 85. La Toni Smith was one point behind with a score of 537, shooting 90, 87, 88, 91, 92, and 89. Diana Duncan was the fourth member of the GMC team shooting a 524 with scores of 85, 89, 86, 88, 86, and 90. Georgia Military College was also represented by Cole Lassetter, Reggie Kendrick, James Squires, Michael Bradley, Cameron Smith and Howard Lane. Clemson University took fifth with a team score of 2124. Sunday morning the Georgia Military College Rifle Team shot smallbore rifle for the first time against the NCAA teams. In the smallbore rifle competition, the shooters are required to shoot two targets of prone, two targets standing and two targets kneeling. The smallbore competition uses .22 caliber rifles. Many of the GMC shooters experienced shooting three different positions for the first time. Several past alumni rifle shooters attended the match. The GMC team had been practicing smallbore rifle since the beginning of this college year. Michael Roberson shot a score of 487, followed by Cole Lassetter with 463, Markeshia Burton 447 and James Squires 333. The team score was 1730. On Saturday, in the NCAA Air Rifle competition North Carolina State University had a score of 2312, The Citadel Men were second with 2268, North Georgia College and State University were third with 2253 and The Citadel Women had a score of 2204. On Sunday, in the NCAA Smallbore Rifle competition, NCSU were first with a score of 2270, The Citadel Men were second with a score of 2221, and NGCSU were third with a score of 2178. SEARC #3 will be held at The Citadel, in Charleston, South Carolina on November 10-11, 2012.
