On Friday, November 4, Representative Terry England (R-Auburn) formally welcomed GMC’s newest cadets into the Regiment as the guest speaker at the President’s Parade. Representative England is the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and has spent more than a decade in the Georgia House of Representatives serving the citizens of Barrow County and House District 116. England toured GMC’s Milledgeville campus and met with the Junior College and Prep School cadets. During the President’s Parade, family members of new cadets officially welcomed them into the Regiment by pinning a GMC Crests onto their uniform. This pinning signifies that they are officially members of the 138th Corps of Cadets. England pinned 9th grader, Kadin Graves, whose mother was unable to attend the President’s parade.
“Each time I come down here I’m impressed with the students, the professionalism, the conduct,” said Rep. Terry England. “I enjoy the passion I see from the students and the adults that are here working with the students. I hope the students understand the significance of the Crests and what the Latin words on the Crests say about to work or serve with fidelity.”
The cadets presented Representative England with a military saber. England along with GMC’s President, Lt. Gen. William B. Caldwell, IV, presented distinguished awards to several students and members of the GMC family.
Cadet Joshwelle Dela Rama, Cadet Brigid Lowery, and Reverend David Luke received the Distinguished Order of the Servant Leader Award. This award recognizes character excellence for those members of the GMC family who have volunteered at least 100 hours of community service in one year. Cadet Peyton Wells received the Distinguished Order of the Servant Leader Award with two Oak Leaf Clusters. This award recognizes character excellence for those members of the GMC family who have volunteered at least 300 hours of community service.
Cadets Zachary Senger and Kevin Wynn received the GMC FIT TO LEAD medal which recognizes Junior College cadets who have scored the maximum number of points on the Army’s Physical Fitness Test.
Also recognized at the parade was the GMC Ranger Challenge Team who recently competed at Fort Knox, KY against 17 other ROTC teams in several military areas such as physical fitness, land navigation, weapon’s shooting, hand grenade assault course, and a forced road march with a 35-pound rucksack.
