Real Drill Team Wins 6 Medals At State – Headed to Nationals!
The GMC Real Drill Team Wins 6 Medals At State “Our Drill is Real” On Saturday, March 27, the GMC Prep School Real Drill Team competed at the Georgia State Drill meet which was held at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. There were 1236 cadets competing from all over the state of Georgia. The schools list included Academy of Richmond County, Adairsville, Apalachee, Banks County, Beach, Benedictine Military , Evans, Cedar Shoals, Griffin, Metter, Liberty County, Dalton, Ware County, Putnam County, Roswell, Riverside Military Academy, Elbert County and many others ; totaling 86 schools. Once again, the Real Drill Team represented GMC and Middle Georgia proudly by winning 6 medals and placing in the top 5 in all categories entered.The skillful sophomore GMC female competitor, CadetSSG Caroline Hooks, set the example for all drill members and tied for 1st place in the entire state of Georgia defeating 37 competitors in the Female Individual Exhibition Category. This was a record-setting win for GMC Prep. In the Male Dual Exhibition Category, Cadet1LTQuintin Weekly and CadetLTC Kip Goss placed 2nd in this eventdefeating 46 competitors, while coming close to the number 1 spot. CadetMAJ Rick Griffin and Cadet1SG Zach Guyton placed 4th place out of the state. CadetLTC Kip Goss then turned his focus towards the Male Individual Exhibition Category and earned a 5th place medal against51 competitors for this event. The male individual exhibition category is extremely competitive; sometimes winners are within a half of a point of another, therefore its very challenging to place in the top 5selected positions. Each competitor did an outstanding job at the meet. Each team member believes in the Acronym “RIFLE” in which each letter stands for a standard set by their coachSFC Van Dexter Rutledge: Our R.I.F.L.E. R respect and loyalty Iidentify the plan F function as a team L lead by example Eexecute with precision. The next mission for the GMC Prep Real Drill Team is to compete on the national level. The team will travel to Dayton Beach, Florida, May 1-3, to compete for the first time ever at the National Drill Competition at the Master’s level.
