Prep’s fine arts department expands

The fine arts program at Georgia Military College Prep School is expanding.

Students interested in participating in the school’s fine arts program, including the areas of music, theater and visual arts, will take part in a one-act play, choir retreats, competitions, staged productions, choral presentations, a combined fine arts spring banquet, and even a high school trip to New York.

After making three placements in the Region Literary Competition for the first time, attending three choir retreats and introducing one-act plays again after several years, Weaver also created the school’s first Thespian Troupe during the last school year. The honor organization has inducted 20 high school students who will head to the Georgia Thespian Conference and competition at Columbus State University in February.

High school students will take the spotlight during the one act play of “The Wiz” scheduled in late October while middle school performers will shine in their own show of “Disney’s The Little Mermaid” slated in mid-February.

The annual Communities In Schools Benefit Concert, scheduled April 16 at Baldwin High School, is just one of the many events scheduled to help mesh and unify the entire fine arts department. The first-ever Spring Fine Arts Banquet on May 14 will also bring together all band, choir and theater students and parents in celebration of the year-long accomplishments.https://unionrecorder.com/features/x941534357/GMC-Prep-School-s-fine-arts-department-expands
