Prep marching band preps for halftime show

Nearly 80 Georgia Military College Prep School marching band students kicked off rehearsal Monday in preparation of their halftime show in the upcoming football season.

Band camp began at 8 a.m. Monday with all band and flag corps students while rookies got a head start last week to learn the challenging routine.

This year’s show will be a salute to the “Soul,” featuring musical selections from Sam & Dave, Aretha Franklin, Tower Of Power, James Brown, The Isley Brothers and Percy Sledge.

Band students will raise funds for the school’s program by selling $10 band cards starting Thursday, providing discounts to area businesses.

The first GMC Prep marching band performance will be at an away game against Harlem High School Friday, Aug. 31. The first home game is scheduled Friday, Sept. 14 against Riverside Military Academy.

Students will continue rehearsing their marching steps and pages of drill from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. each day this week until band camp concludes Friday.

To support the GMC Prep marching band by purchasing a band card, contact a band student or stop by the school.
