Prep School Wins 28-7

The GMC Prep football team got its first win of the season Friday night with a 28-7 victory over the Panthers of Glascock County. After a back and forth 1st quarter with neither team scoring, GMC took the lead with a 10 yard touchdown run by Sophomore Jai Boyd. That was all the scoring that occurred in the half, as GMC took a 7-0 lead going into the intermission. In the 3rd quarter, GMC’s running game took control of the game, as quarterback ReKarche Griffin took off for a 67 yard touchdown run. First year kicker Tyler Oates, who was perfect on the night, tacked on the extra point putting the Dogs up 14-0. GMC continued to run the ball up and down the field in the 4th quarter as Colby Lawrence scored on a 10 yard touchdown, and Jai Boyd broke a 34 yard run for his second score on the night putting GMC up 28-0. The Dog’s stifling defense finally gave up a score with just 2:30 left in the game, as many reserves took the field. GMC was lead on the night by Jai Boyd with 6 carries for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Colby Lawrence added 17 carries for 80 yards and a touchdown. Malik Bradley was the leading receiver with 2 catches for 47 yards. The defense was led by Christian Burney with 8 tackles, two pass deflections, and an interception. Boyd also contributed defensively with 11 tackles on the night. Next week the Dogs travel to Gainesville, GA to take on the Eagles of Riverside Military Academy in the Military Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
