Prep Class of 2009 Graduation

Graduation for the GMC Preparatory School Class of 2009 was held on Friday, May 29, 7:00 p.m., on Grant Parade. MG Peter J. Boylan, President of Georgia Military College, presented the commencement address.

The COL Joseph F. Muldrow Salutatorian Award was presented to Cadet First Sergeant Jimmy Lee Huff. Mr. Huff is the son of Pastor and Mrs. Jimmy Huff of Sparta, Ga. His awards and honors include: Joint Enrollment student, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, U.S. Army Reserve Scholar Athlete Award, Principal’s List, Academic Achievement Insignia, Junior Leader Award, Aim Summer Academy Valedictorian, and Varsity Basketball. Jimmy plans to attend The University of Georgia in the fall and major in Psychology.

The Bettie Z. Farr Valedictorian Award was presented to Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Haylee Dianne DeLoach. Miss DeLoach is the daughter of Ms. Kim Purvis of Milledgeville, Ga. and Mr. Scott DeLoach of Eatonton, Ga. Some of her awards and honors include: Chairman of the Honor Council, STAR Student, Milledgeville’s Junior Miss, Second Runner-up for Georgia’s Junior Miss, High School Battalion Commander, Middle School Battalion Commander, Distinguished Order of the Servant Leader Award, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Citizenship Award, Character Award for Diligence, Exchange Club Youth of the Month and Youth of the Year, Varsity Competition and Football Cheerleading, Varsity Golf, Competitive Dance and Gymnastics. Haylee plans to attend the University of Georgia in the fall and major in Math Education with a minor in Spanish. She also plans to do summer mission trips around the world.

To graduate from Georgia Military College Preparatory School with honors, a student must earn a cumulative academic average of 90 or better during his or her four years of high school. The GMC Prep School Class of 1953 endowed scholarship is awarded annually to one senior who has exhibited outstanding academic achievement, and to one member of the GMC prep school faculty who has demonstrated teaching excellence. Mrs. Ellen Goodrich presented the Class of 1953 Scholarship and a $500 scholarship to Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Haylee DeLoach, and the Class of 1953 Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence and a $500 stipend to Major Linda Brown.

Sarah Joy Beadles was the 2009 recipient of the W. J. Usery, Jr. Award for Excellence, which is a $500 cash award presented annually to the senior who exemplifies the ideals of the academic, military, and citizenship pursuits at Georgia Military College Prep School. Sarah is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas A. Beadles, II. She plans to attend the University of Georgia in the fall.

Immediately after the presentation of diplomas, Ms. Merel Harrison, GMC Prep School Class of 1973, Junior College Class of 1974 and President of the Georgia Military College Alumni Association, welcomed the members of the graduating class into the Alumni Association.
