GMC Prep baseball downs Lincoln in summer finale, 6-5

(MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.) – The Georgia Military College Prep varsity baseball team wrapped up its summer schedule on Tuesday with a 6-5 win over region rival Lincoln County.

The Bulldogs end the summer with a 6-3 record overall.

“Our summer schedule is a time when we work on getting better,” said GMC Prep head coach Garry Couch. “We have a lot of young guys out here playing, and some guys are playing in positions they may not have played before. It is all aimed at getting us in a position to win next spring.”

On Tuesday, the Bulldogs and Red Devils battled over seven innings of play, with the lead changing hands on five different occasions.

Rick Griffin led the way at the plate for GMC Prep, going 4-for-4 with a two-run homerun, two doubles, a single, and all six RBIs. He also picked up the save on the mound, going one inning.

Will Parker started on the mound for Bulldogs, going three innings for a no decision. Mack Brooks earned the win, pitching two frames.

“Overall, we had a very productive summer,” Couch said. “I think the work we got in puts us in a favorable position for next season.”

The Bulldogs had two more contests scheduled for Thursday against Washington-Wilkes, but the games were canceled Wednesday because of scheduling issues with Washington-Wilkes.
