Oconee Regional Symphony Orchestra to feature Moona Yu – Oct 20

The Oconee Regional Symphony Orchestra will present a concert titled “Piano Passion,” on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 5:00 pm. The concert will take place at Russell Auditorium, located on N. Clark Street, between W. Montgomery St. and W. Hancock St., on the campus of GCSU, in Milledgeville, GA. The concert is free and open to the public. Free parking is available around the auditorium. Donations are accepted and greatly appreciated. The performance will open with Mozart’s The Magic Flute Overture, followed by Bizet’s L’Arlesienne Suite No. 1, movements I, II, and IV. ORSO is proud to present piano soloist, Moona Yu, who will finish the concert, performing the first movement of Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto. Professor Yu was born in Seoul, Korea. She commenced her formal training in piano at the age of five. By the age of eleven, she was awarded top honors at the piano competition sponsored by the Korean Student Artists Institute. She is a graduate of the prestigious Sun Hwa Art High School. Ms. Yu was a prizewinner at the Young Artists Competition in Des Moines, Iowa. She completed her undergraduate music studies at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, under Dr. Alan Hersh. She went on to earn a Master’s degree in Piano Performance at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. Professor Yu has been teaching at Georgia Military College, in Milledgeville, GA since 1993. She teaches Music Appreciation classes, directs the GMC JC Chorus/GMC Chamber Singers, performs piano concerts on a regular basis, and serves as the Humanities Dept. Chair. She enjoys an active career as a teacher, a pianist, and a music director. ORSO, as a non-profit community orchestra, debuted their first concert in the fall of 2011. The orchestra is now in their third season of performing two concerts per year, in Milledgeville, GA. The orchestra is the only community orchestra in the middle Georgia region.
