Men & Women’s Soccer Pull Out Wins Against Andrew College
We had double header wins for the first time ever In history. The GMC women’s team pulled of 3-0 shut out of Andrew College. It was 0-0 at the end of the half. We stepped it up in the second half. Sophomore Korie Wilson had 2 amazing goals- one was a volley and the other was a header. Freshman Chyna Manning finished the match with great late goal and an assist. Last year the team had won only 2 games. Sophomore Defender Alex Johnson and Sophomore defender Kayla Cooper were amazing in the win. Both defenders are so fast and so tough. They are both a delight to coach. We just won our 4th game of the season and doubled our win column from last year. We set a record for most wins in season. I believe with that win we have good chance to be in conference tournament. The Men’s win was simply amazing. It was our third overtime game of the year . Our last two over time games ended in loss and tie versus Gordon College. We had great goal in the first half. Freshman Kwasi Yankey beat two player and fed the ball to Freshman Sawyer Meyers. Sawyer then slipped the ball past their keeper for 1-0 halftime lead. Sawyer is a GMC cadet and I was proud to see him score his team leading third goal. Second half they scored a great goal to tie the match. It was back and for in the second half. Both teams had many chances in the second half. Right before halftime Our goalkeeper Eddie Webb made huge save to help us go to over time. In first 5 minutes Freshman Hector Alavarado hit a lazer beam from 20 yards to the goal. The Andrew college keeper got his hands on it and knock the ball down. Freshman Rene Njikang bashed the ball in to the net for the game winning goal. After the goal the team and fans rushed on to the field and jumped on top of Rene. It was amazing to see the team win its second game in one week. This program went over 60 games in 4 years without a win. Especially seeing the smiles from the two sophomores Eddie Webb and Gabriel Nelson was priceless. Those two were the only returning players from the GMC team that lost most games in double digits!!!! Coach David Grant was with me after the game and I could tell he was so excited and proud of our GMC Soccer team. Honestly I still remember pulling of huge wins over ACC powers UNC Chapel Hill and Clemson University as soccer coach at Georgia State the last 13 years-But this win I will never ever ever forget!!!!! Tonight my son Kenan turned 6 and I was not able to see him with the college games going on-so the players gave me birthday gift for him!!!! I want to thank MJ Peter Boylan and Bert Williams in giving me the amazing opportunity to work as GMC soccer coach for both teams. My coaching staff and both teams was also to thank the support we received from our fans. GO BULLDOGS!!!
