Lunsford is a 2011 Nominee for the Albany State University National Alumni Association Athletic Hall of Fame James Lunsford, President of The Local Albany Alumni Chapter and Head Boys Basketball Coach at Georgia Military College Prep, was nominated by the local membership of Albany State University, led by Janie White, Frances Lattimore, and Janette Jordan, for the Albany State University National Alumni Hall of Fame award given each year for athletics and community services. The award was established to honor and perpetuate the memory of those individuals who have brought recognition, honor and distinction to themselves, the Albany State University National Alumni Association, and to Albany State University while being of outstanding quality, high moral character and integrity, and held in high esteem by their colleagues. In addition to his being an outstanding coach, Lunsford, founder and director of the Baldwin Youth Association, Inc. and has spent the past three decades developing high school student athletes by increasing the quality of basketball and exposure throughout the Southeast, which is one of the primary reasons he has placed over 450 student athletes in colleges. His hard work has resulted in winning over 600 games and being named “Georgia Gatorade Coach of the Year.” He was nominated by the Georgia High School Association for membership in the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame. As a member of the Georgia Coaches Association, he is one of the winningest coaches in Georgia. In the community, Coach Lunsford is also presently the President of the 100 Black Men of the Milledgeville-Oconee Area Chapter. Under his guidance, the chapter has been chosen annually as one of the top chapters for its size. The chapter has conducted and partnered with groups hosting career fairs, prostate and diabetes screenings, the SAT-ACT Old Capital Classic Basketball Challenge, political forums, academic initiatives, a GED initiative by Georgia Military College, and health and wellness community programs. The 100 Organization has been a very important part of the “Yes After School Program” and the camp’s dance program. While working with these community programs, the 100 Organization has continued mentoring students in the local schools. The 100 Organization is introducing a leadership academy this year. Lunsford has served on the Milledgeville Housing Authority Board, the Carrera After School Board, the Atlanta Ranking Advisory Board, and the Black Coaches National Association Board. He has been nominated for the Flaggs Justice Award given by Georgia College & State University for his outstanding work in the community. He is also a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi.
