Lt. Gen. Caldwell officially assumes leadership

Caldwell IV officially retired from active duty in the U.S. Army and was inducted as Georgia Military College’s 21st president during a public ceremony Thursday. GMC cadet Devin Morgado served as narrator for the event. Fellow cadets presented the academic procession and cadet procession. The Rev. Dr. Mike Cavin, pastor of First United Methodist Church, led the invocation followed by a presentation of colors and national anthem. The ceremony’s distinguished guest speaker was Gen. Charles H. Jacoby, Jr., commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command. Jacoby pinned Caldwell during his retirement ceremony. GMC Board of Trustees Chair Randy New led the investiture ceremony and marked Caldwell’s assumption of the presidency of GMC. Caldwell was also honored as the first-ever Army recipient of the Distinguished Service Medal by the Department of Homeland Security. He received this award for his work as the Commanding General of U.S. Army North (5th Army), U.S. Northern Command’s Joint Force Land Component Command and Army Service Component Command, Joint Base San Antonio, Texas from December 2011 to August 2013. Caldwell’s wife, Stephanie, was presented with the Decoration for Distinguished Civilian Service for extraordinary contributions to the U.S. Army. The ceremony concluded with the Cadet Prayer, posting of colors, pass in review and a benediction by the Rev. David Luke.
