Lesa Wafford First Recipient of GMC Columbus COL Snodgrass Memorial Scholarship

On September 10, 2015, Lesa Wafford became the first student to receive the Georgia Military College Columbus Colonel Snodgrass Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was created by Georgia Military College to commemorate the late Colonel David Snodgrass and his influence on GMC Columbus. Brigadier General Curt Rauhut, GMC Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, said of Colonel Snodgrass, “He was a lifelong learner,” deeming the award appropriate as a celebration of his life and passion.

The award was given to Ms. Wafford based on demonstrated need, two recommendation letters, and a personal essay written about her educational goals. During the presentation she reiterated that she wants to use her college education to go into obstetrics and gynecology, with an ultimate goal to open her own private practice. Along with being a full-time student with excellent grades and a member of the United States military, Ms. Wafford is raising her 6-year-old son. Mrs. Snodgrass said that she “couldn’t imagine someone more deserving,” after Ms. Wafford made a heartfelt speech that left the room in tears.

Ms. Tracie Price, Executive Director of the GMC Columbus Campus commented, “This is the first year of the Colonel Snodgrass Memorial Scholarship and we are proud to have been able to present it to such a dedicated, hard-working student with a clear vision for her future and determination to reach all of her goals.”
