Jenny Brown qualifies for state after capturing region title

GMC Prep’s Jenny Brown qualifies for state after capturing region title Brent Martin The Union-Recorder The Union-Recorder Sat May 14, 2011, MILLEDGEVILLE — GMC Prep junior Jenny Brown is another outstanding area student-athlete who is only getting better with age. Brown qualified for the GHSA State Track and Field Championships in Albany after a fine showing at the Region Championships recently. In Albany Thursday, Brown ran a personal best of 51.08 in the 300 meter hurdles and finished in the Top 10 overall, which was quite an accomplishment considering the level of competition. Recently, Brown captured the GHSA 4A Region Championship in the 300 meter hurdles with a winning time of 54 seconds flat. “In just a short amount of time she has improved her time by almost three seconds already,” said GMC Prep track and field coach Steven Simpson. “It’s a long race and a hard race. Not many people even attempt it.” The 300 meter hurdles is a challenging event for most, but Brown has a way of making it look easy. What’s even more impressive is that this is her first year running hurdles for GMC Prep. She is also a standout in the classroom (an honors student) and is one of the top players on the girls soccer team. “She doesn’t have as much time to practice track as she’d like — with soccer and everything else she has going on. She ran in only three track meets before the region, and considering how she’s placed, that’s good,” said Simpson. “She does all of this on natural ability.” Congratulations, Jenny, on winning the region crown and good luck in all your future races!
