GMC rolls over four-year school Steven Cary The Union-Recorder The Union-Recorder Tue Nov 05, 2013, 03:16 PM EST MILLEDGEVILLE — Adding to an already impressive record this season, Georgia Military College pounced on Concordia College Saturday in Selma, Ala. to score a dominating 52-10 win over the Hornets. Despite some questionable officiating in the contest, head coach Bert Williams was pleased with the way the Bulldogs remained focused and poised throughout the ballgame to earn the program’s first win over a four-year school. “We traveled well and the guys were focused,” Williams said. “We prepared the guys well and prepared them for questionable officiating, which helped out our guys.” GMC’s defense played exceptionally well against Concordia, giving up only 152 yards of offense on the day. Chris Duffy had his best performance all season leading the Bulldogs with four tackles, two pass break-ups and one sack, as well as two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. Jaden Lee also stepped up for the team with eight tackles, followed by Jakevin Jackson who had five tackles and an interception. Both Blake Robbins and Jamarlo Alford snagged the team’s last two sacks, while Buddy Byers and Jeremy Boykins added an interception each in the game. “Chris [Duffy] has played well all year, but he just got out there and took center stage,” Williams said. “We also had some other guys jump out there. Blake Robbins, he’s given us some good reps, but he jumped out there and took center stage as well.” The Bulldogs’ offense did not disappoint either, with 610 yards of total offense against the Hornets. “I’m just very pleased with the guys going out there playing hard,” Williams said. Jevons Robinson continued to put up big numbers with 21 carries for 221 yards and three trips to the end zone, while Akeem Judd carried the ball 10 times in the game for 96 yards rushing. Also having another strong performance was quarterback Pat Thomas, who went 7-for-9 passing and threw for 183 yards and two touchdowns. Leading the receiving core was Quentin Atkinson with three receptions for 69 yards, followed Devon Williams with two receptions for 46 yards and a touchdown. Both Zireycus Letman and Ty Flournoy-Smith also snagged a touchdown each receiving. “Pat [Thomas] was doing a great job running the offense and the offensive line was doing a good job adjusting,” Williams said. “The guys were doing well with the receivers running good routes and the defense held them to about 150 yards. It was just a really good total team effort.” With the win, GMC continued to show its dominance this season, taking down strong opponents week-in and week-out. “I think I guys are doing a pretty good job of taking care of business this year,” Williams said. “Our offense has put up some big points on teams that don’t normally get that many points scored against them. Our defense has done a good job of holding teams to under their normal amount of total offense.” Having a large Bulldog fan base making the drive to Selma on Saturday, Williams admits it was a comforting to have so much support and pull off a big win. “We had 70 to 100 fans that came, and that were quite loud. It was really nice to have them in the stands with us,” he said. “Our guys just continue to out-execute and out-perform. We just had a great day.” The Bulldogs take on Lackawanna College next on Sunday in Blacksburg, Va. for the last regular season contest of the season at 1 p.m.
