Georgia Military College quarterback Pat Thomas commits to UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Georgia Military College quarterbackPat Thomascommitted to UAB on Thursday, nearly two weeks after he took an official visit to the school. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Thomas said he would graduate from GMC in the spring and be ready to join UAB by the summer. He’s from Atlanta and went to GMC to qualify academically. “Coach(Garrick) McGeewas up front with me about everything,” Thomas said. “He didn’t lie to me about anything. I just felt like it was the right place.” Thomas visited UAB when the Blazers hosted Southern Miss. While the game didn’t go in UAB’s favor (a 62-27 loss), Thomas felt like he was ready to be a part of the program. “Coach McGee didn’t hide anything from me,” Thomas said. “UAB is in a rebuilding phase and he was telling me how I was the missing piece.” Thomas said he picked UAB over Western Kentucky. He led GMC to the NJCAA national championship where the school fell to East Mississippi. He might have been able to get more offers if he were able to graduate in December, but he was going to UAB regardless. “Coach McGee stuck by my side and stayed on me throughout the recruiting process,” Thomas said. “It really didn’t matter what other schools recruited me. I like the fact that he played quarterback and he can mold me into the best quarterback I can be.”
