Georgia Military College Golfers Sign Intent with Georgia College & State University

Georgia Military College Junior College Athletics is thrilled to celebrate golfers Austin Quillian and Lurner Benton as they signed a national letter of intent to continue their education and golf careers at Georgia College & State University. Both players have had successful athletic careers as GMC Bulldogs and we look forward to seeing what their future holds as GC&SU Bobcats.

Quillian has been the anchor for GMC’s golf team and a leader amongst his peers. He is GMC’s first three-time All-American golfer and helped lead the team to one National Championship and two Runner-Up finishes. Austin is also a two-time recipient of the Mason Cup award for who best represents the game of golf at GMC. This year Quillian was also named to the NJCAA All-Academic Team for his outstanding performance in the classroom.

During Benton’s time with the GMC Golf team, he was a member of two National Championship Runner-Up teams and earned All-American honors twice. His round of 68 at the 2021 National Championship ranks as the third lowest round in the tournament’s history. Benton was the individual champion at this years Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Championship to cap off his final year.

Georgia Military College Athletic Director, Rob Manchester, says both players have experienced great success at GMC. They have committed themselves to the process of achieving excellence and have grown exponentially as golfers because of it.

“It is always an exciting day when a GMC student-athlete signs a letter of intent to continue playing a sport that they love and continue their education at an outstanding institution like Georgia College & State University,” Manchester said. “It is even more exciting for these gentlemen who get to move to the next chapter together as teammates and stay local in the Milledgeville community. I know both of these student-athletes will continue to make us proud!”

In the fall, Quillian and Benton will begin their next chapter at Georgia College & State University.
