Georgia Military College Completes Inaugural Leadership & Character Development Course

Georgia Military College (GMC) is proud to announce the completion of our first annual “Leadership & Character Development Course” (LCDC), developed to foster authentic servant leadership skills and enhance character development among the College Corps of Cadets.

This week-long course was designed to provide our cadets with a comprehensive understanding of leadership principles and different leadership styles, communication, decision-making, problem-solving, and conflict resolution. The course also focused on character development, including ethical reasoning, decision-making, integrity, responsibility, and self-discipline. These values are fundamental to GMC’s mission of producing responsible citizens and leaders reinforcing GMC’s motto of “Character Above All.”

LCDC consisted of community and military leader lectures, small group discussions, case studies, daily physical training, staff rides, classroom instruction, and subject matter expert panels led by leaders in their respective fields.

Lieutenant General William B. Caldwell IV, USA (Ret), President of Georgia Military College stated, “As a premier leadership institute, the development of our cadet’s leadership skills and their character are two of the most important values we teach them; and that we also impart to every student at Georgia Military College.” President Caldwell further emphasized that “Leadership and character are essential qualities for success, and we are committed to teaching our Cadets to develop these traits to become strong, responsible, and authentic servant-leaders. This course serves a testament to our dedication to provide the best possible education and training to these future leaders of our great nation.”

At the completion of the course, Cadets earned three college credit hours and a leadership certificate. Next year, Georgia Military College looks forward to broadening this leadership development opportunity to the greater community to help leaders outside GMC hone their skills and learn new lessons to enhance their leadership styles in their different work environments.
