Georgia Military College Columbus Hosts Signing Day for Student Ambassador Scholarship Recipients GMC Columbus hosted its annual Signing Day Ceremony to honor Student Ambassador Scholars on April 28. Ten area high school students who have been awarded the prestigious, two-year, full-ride scholarship for the 2014-2015 academic year were honored as well as the five 2013-2014 recipients. This year’s recipients are Kirren Jackson, Carver High School, Talees’ya Johnson, Hardaway High School, Hunter King, Shaw High School, Sierra McCaulley, Shaw High School, Autumn Scott, Smiths Station High School, CaDarius Scott, Hardaway High School, Justin Simmons, Russell County High School, Katelyn Simpson, Harris County High School, Jonathan Towns, Russell County High School, and Charlene Woods, Kendrick High School. This event highlighted the reasons for each student’s selection for the scholarship, and all recipients signed a Statement of Commitment which will be displayed at GMC Columbus. GMC’s President, Lt. Gen. (Ret.) William B. Caldwell, IV,was in attendance to congratulate the honorees. The goal of the GMC Student Ambassador Scholarship Program is to develop strong leaders. Scholarship recipients devote an average of eight hours every week to various activities, including recruiting, hosting campus tours, and leading new student orientations, in addition to participating in community service projects. These activities are designed to enhance the Ambassadors’ leadership skills while meeting the needs of other GMC Columbus students. Recipients of this competitive, merit based scholarship were selected based on their exceptional academic accomplishments, leadership experience, and extra-curricular involvement, as well as other factors. Georgia Military College, the only public liberal arts junior college located in Columbus, is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees.
