Georgia Military College Cadets Receive Crests During President’s Parade
(Milledgeville, GA) October 29, 2013 – Georgia Military College offers a unique combination of academic, military and character education to students at the levels of sixth grade through the second year of college. Those who began Georgia Military College for the first time this fall were officially welcomed into the Regiment, during the President’s Parade, Sunday, October 27, 2:00 PM, on Grant Parade. GMC crests were pinned onto the new cadets’ uniforms by a family member or close friend signifying they were officially members of the 135th Corps of Cadets. The Distinguished Order of the Servant Leader Award recognizes character excellence for those members of the GMC family who have volunteered at least 100 hours of community service in one year. The award consists of a medal and a certificate signed by the President. The following members of the GMC family were recognized: Annie Benson, Stephen Butch, Cassey Graves, Davis Isley, Jayla Jarrett, Caroline Robinson, Nicholas Trussell, and JC Faculty, Assistant Professor Ursula Lande. The second award of the medal is with one Oak Leaf Cluster and represents at least 200 hours of community service. We congratulate Cadet Sergeant First Class Hannah Brown, Cadet Captain Kailey Calhoun, Cadet Sergeant Calli McMullen, and Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Delarrion Milner. The fifth award of the medal is with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters and represents at least 500 hours of community service. We congratulate Prep School Faculty, Major Brent Gebel. Company A of the 4th Battalion was selected best company in the President’s Inspection and was recognized with the prestigious President’s Inspection streamer. Junior College Cadet Connor was selected as Best Cadet by the President and received the President’s Coin for Excellence. Georgia Military College’s Distinctive Unit Insignia is commonly called the “unit crest” and represents our heritage. The United States Army’s Institute of Heraldry approved the crest on February 7, 1964. COL Fred Van Horn, Interim President, pinned the unit crest onto LtGen William B. Caldwell, IV, President Designee, signifying LtGen Caldwell’s leadership of GMC’s cadet program. Hereafter, LtGen Caldwell’s regimental affiliation will be with the GMC Corps of Cadets.
