Make A Difference Day is the largest national day of community service sponsored by USA Weekend magazine and Points of Life. GMC has made a point to participate in the program every year since 1995. They believe this program shows students ways to connect and assist differently within their community. GMC has taken on the goal of collecting more than 10,000 non-perishable food items this year through an inter-college competition held throughout October. There are three teams participating: Team Prep (the sixth-12th graders), Team Cadet (the junior college cadets) and Team CSF (the junior college commuters, GMC staff and faculty). “It’s all in fun with the outcome to fully support our community, by stocking food pantry shelves,” says Celes Mason, GMC community service coordinator. The canned foods will be delivered Saturday to Café Central and Chard Wray, local food pantries that help feed the Milledgeville community. After a count of the food items, the campus team with the most entries will be announced the Institutional winner. During Make A Difference Day weekend, GMC will also participate in community service projects at the Oconee River Greenway and the Georgia War Veterans Home.
