In efforts to help prepare students for careers that are in high demand across the country, Georgia Military College Columbus Campus is pleased to announce the addition of two new majors in Social Work and Paralegal Studies. The college offers students the option of obtaining the Social Work degree as an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science. For the Paralegal Studies degree, students also have a choice to earn an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science. Both degree types are designed to expose students to a core curriculum and enable them to transfer more easily into the workforce or to a four-year college or university. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook for 2010-2011, careers in social work are projected to grow faster than the average growth rate, and a degree will be necessary for most entry-level positions. Careers in paralegal studies are growing much faster than the average, and an associate degree is needed for many entry-level positions. Georgia Military College offers flexible class times for students during the day, evenings, and weekends, and now offers the option for students to take courses online. The college was recently named a Military Friendly School for its academic accreditation and efforts to recruit and retain active-duty military, military family members and veteran students. Georgia Military College, the only public liberal arts junior college located in Columbus, is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees. Washington Monthly recently ranked Georgia Military College as the best 2-year college in Georgia/Alabama, and 12th best in the nation. Some of the majors offered are business administration, criminal justice, education, homeland security, pre-nursing, and psychology. Enrollment for the Fall 2011 term is currently underway.
