Georgia Military College Celebrates 30 Years of Football

The 2021 football season marks the 30th anniversary since football was reinstated at Georgia Military College. On Saturday, October 2, 2021, GMC celebrated 30 years of tradition, excellence, grit, and 30 years of producing not only successful athletes but successful, well-rounded young men who we are proud to call our own.

“We have a lot of enthusiasm behind us this season as our Bulldogs celebrate our institution’s rich history and this program’s success,” said GMC Athletic Director and JC Head Football Coach, Rob Manchester. “This is a monumental season for us and we’re proud of the team we’ve built here at Georgia Military College and look forward to continuing to make our GMC family proud.”

Georgia Military College is the only Junior College football program in the state, and one of very few Junior College football programs in the southeastern United States. The program has seen much success over 30 years. On top of our Bulldogs being NJCAA National Champions in 2001 and NJCAA National Runner-Ups in 2002, 2005, and 2013, GMC has had 388 student-athletes earn scholarships to play in Division I FBS (211) and Division I-AA FCS (177) football over the last 30 years. 181 of these athletes have gone on to play at the Division II level, while 15 have gone to the NAIA level. That makes 584 GMC football players who continued their collegiate football careers and 164 teams that have benefitted from those players who started in Milledgeville at GMC. On top of that, Georgia Military College has had 50 of its Alumni go on to play in the National Football League representing GMC on 25 NFL teams, some even having won Super Bowl Championships.

Since 1994 the GMC Bulldogs have finished their season ranked by the NJCAA 18 times: the Top Five 6 times, the Top Fifteen 8 times, and the Top Twenty 4 times. Since 1993, Georgia Military College has participated in 15 post season bowl games. Those bowl games include: The Golden Isles Bowl 9 times, The Mississippi Bowl 2 times, The Pilgrim’s Pride Bowl Classic 1 time, The Heart of Texas Bowl 1 time, The McKinnon Travel Bowl 1 time, and The Graphic Edge Bowl 1 time.

Georgia Military College remains focused on producing young men who benefit not only from playing football with us, but also from the character and leader development programs that will make them future leaders in our communities. Congratulations to the GMC JC football program for an amazing 30 years, we look forward to many more!
