Title III Strengthening Institutions Planning Grant Received

(Milledgeville, GA) October 8, 2004 – Georgia Military College was recently awarded a Title III Strengthening Institutions Planning Grant from the U.S. Department of Education in the amount of $21,878.00. Selection for this funding was extremely competitive, with only 26 grants of this type awarded this year.

The money from this grant will be used to send GMC faculty to national conferences and institutes to acquire knowledge about how to improve student learning in GMC’s Learning Support Services (LSS) classes. LSS classes assist students who are not yet prepared to take the regular college level coursework. GMC also plans to hire consultants to review the school’s retention services, advising process, and student learning. Based upon the reports provided by these consultants, faculty and administrators will determine what changes need to be made both inside as well as outside of the classroom. Dr. Paula Payne, GMC Chair of Humanities said, “We know that our LSS teachers are doing a good job, but we want to provide the best possible support for our LSS students. This Title III Planning Grant will help us ‘plan’ for a bright future for all of our students.”
