Prep Rifle Team Competes in State Championship
The State of Georgia has forty nine high schools competing in air rifle. Sixty three shooters representing fourteen high schools qualified for state this year. These shooters represented their schools for the twentieth state air rifle championship under the leadership of The Georgia High School Association Riflery Program. The championships were held this year on April 2 at the Pool International Shooting Complex at Ft. Benning, Georgia. The Georgia Military College Prep Rifle Team qualified and was represented by the following shooters. Jacob Smith, Co-Captain led the team with 95 prone, 95 standing, 89 kneeling. Caroline Hooks, Captain had 95 prone, 88 standing, 95 kneeling. Cameron Lowe had 92 prone, 74 standing, 93 kneeling. Shooting her personal best and anchoring the team was Jenna Bethea shooting 94 prone, 82 standing and 97 kneeling. Shooting at Ft. Benning is a great experience for the shooters because the prone and kneeling positions are shot on top of tables and scoring is electronic. Georgia High School Association supports the Olympic style rifle shooting events. Griffin High School won the gold team medal with 1148 points, East Coweta High School the silver with 1146 and Luella High School the bronze with 1138. The individual winner was William Cross of Griffin with a score of 290. Team Captain Caroline Hooks says that the team hopes to hoard their skills and advance in their state standing in the upcoming year. Hooks says, “It’s gonna take a lot of time and dedication from my team, but we are always up for a challenge and nothing is going to stop us from trying to achieve a higher goal.” Way to go GMC Prep Rifle Team. Keep up all the good work!
