Prep Cadets Complete JROTC Leadership Camp

Twenty-four GMC Prep cadets completed a five-day JROTC leadership camp at Riverside Military Academy, May 31–June 4, 2011. More than 350 cadets from various high schools participated and GMC Prep cadets excelled in several areas. The following cadets (pictured) were recognized for their achievement: Caroline Hooks – Bronze Medal – 3rd overall in individual marksmanship Malik Bradley – Gold Medal – his squad was the overall top squad at camp Nathan Weldon – Silver Medal – his squad was overall 2nd place squad at camp Jenna Bethea – Silver Medal – her squad was overall 3rd place at squad military games. The cadets followed a rigorous schedule, starting the day by 5:30am and training all day until 10:00 pm each night participating in numerous tasks such as, mountain climbing and rappelling at Mt. Yona, ropes course, marksmanship, cadet challenge PT test, canoeing, obstacle course, leaders reaction course, drill & ceremonies, downed pilot rescue, drown proofing, squad military games, intramural sports, and rappelling from a 50-ft. tower. LTC (R) David F. Lewis, GMC Senior Army Instructor, said, “Throughout the camp, cadets were placed in various leadership positions and evaluated on their performance. Our cadets performed extremely well and represented GMC in great fashion.”
