Michael Anderson named Barbara Shaheen Scholarship recipient
Georgia Military College recently awarded the Barbara Shaheen Scholarship for the 2012 fall quarter to Michael Anderson, of Perry, Ga. Michael Anderson, who is majoring in Homeland Security and Emergency Management, said, “At the age of 27 I was injured on the job as a career fire fighter. Shortly after hearing the news that I would not be able to return to full duty, I was faced with a difficult decision – find another career or go back to college as a full-time student. I decided to enroll as a full-time student at Georgia Military College and so far this journey is turning out to be successful. It is an honor to have been selected by Mrs. Shaheen, such a prestigious individual in our community, for this scholarship. It is greatly appreciated.” The Barbara Shaheen Scholarship was established by GMC alumna Barbara Shaheen in 2008. “I wanted to give something back, and establishing this scholarship was a way to help other students with their education. As a senior citizen in the state of Georgia there was no charge for my tuition, when I attended GMC. The scholarship was a great way to repay all the kindness and education I have received from GMC.” Pictured (left to right) Barbara Shaheen and Michael Anderson.
