Leanna Harbor is chosen as Baldwin County STAR Student

Baldwin County STAR Student honored with plaque, scholarship The Union-Recorder The Union-Recorder Thu Mar 01, 2012, 08:18 AM EST MILLEDGEVILLE — The Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce honored Leanna Harbor of Georgia Military College Prep School with a plaque and $1,000 check as the 2012 STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) Student at the Milledgeville Country Club Wednesday.

Harbor chose GMC English Department Chair Shannon Davis as her STAR Teacher for being such an influential mentor and role model.

STAR Students David Harshbarger of Baldwin High School and Sean Hodell of John Milledge Academy were each awarded a plaque and a $500 scholarship by Baldwin County Schools Superintendent Geneva Braziel and Chamber Board of Directors Chair Keith Barlow. Baldwin High STAR Teacher James Williams and JMA STAR Teacher Jessica Jones were also rewarded with plaques and $100 checks.

As president of the Watson-Brown Junior Board of Trustees, Harbor participates in varsity soccer, one-act play, concert band, chorus, Spanish honor society and Relay for Life among a few clubs and organizations. She placed second at the 2010 region competition of the technology fair, and won the 2009 Superior Cadet Award. The 2012 Distinguished Young Woman of Jones County plans to attend either Vanderbilt University or the University of Georgia to major in biology.

The STAR program is a statewide program coordinated by the PAGE Foundation that awards high school seniors that have the highest SAT score and are ranked in the top 10 percent or top 10 members of their class. For the past 54 years, more than 23,000 STAR students and teachers have been honored for their academic and professional accomplishments.

As the Baldwin County STAR Student, Harbor will compete for region honors in March.
