Kitchens Attends ROV Workshop

MAJ Duane Kitchens, Georgia Military College Prep School Science Chairman, was one of only twenty teachers selected from the state to participate in the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Workshop held at the Georgia Aquarium. The instructor for the workshop was Ms. Cathy Sakas, Education Coordinator for the NOAA Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary, and host and author of “The Coastal Naturalist” series produced by Georgia Public Television. During the workshop, Kitchens built an ROV, discussed how ROVs are used for research, technology and exploration in national marine sanctuaries, how to infuse ROV technology into the classroom, and how to organize a student ROV competition team. MAJ Kitchens plans to have a student team ready to participate in the Marine Advanced Technology Education Center’s Southeast Regional ROV Competition in April.
