HS Team Places Fifth in Odyssey of the Mind World Finals

Congratulations to the GMC Prep high school team which earned fifth place (Division III) in the 32nd Odyssey of the Mind World Finals held on May 28-30, 2011 at the University of Maryland. The team members are Sara Poole, Elliot Fairbrass, Jostin Grimes, Keshawn Harris, Taylore Brooks and Liam Faibrass. Their challenge, Extreme Mouse Mobiles, was to design, build, and run vehicles that use mousetraps as their only source of energy. They competed against 48 teams from across the United States, as well as teams from India, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, Canada, Mexico, and Poland. Team members are pictured during a performance for the GMC Prep student body prior to the world competition. Odyssey of the Mind (www.odysseyofthemind.com) is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Teams of students apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. By tapping into creativity, and through encouraging imaginative paths to problem-solving, students learn skills that will provide them with the ability to solve problems — great and small — for a lifetime.
