Grant Parade Dedication

RESTORED PARADE GROUND TO BE DEDICATED

(Milledgeville, GA) October 25, 2005 – The 127th Corps of Cadets of Georgia Military College will parade for the President of Georgia Military College and formally welcome new cadets into their ranks during the President’s Parade, Sunday, October 30, 2005, 2:00 p.m. This parade will be especially significant because the restored ground will be dedicated in honor of the families of James C. Grant, John W. Grant, and Joseph L. Grant. The parade ground, historically referred to as the \”Parade,\” was the area where soldiers gathered to pass in review before departing for military service. The Georgia Military College Parade, restored to its original state in 2005, is dedicated in honor of the Grant family, four generations of whom have attended Georgia Military College. The guest speaker will be Mr. Dean Grant.

Georgia Military College officials said, “Please join us for the parade on the pavers on the east side of the Old Capitol Building. Although it may be tempting to stand behind the formation near the band, doing so detracts from the pageantry and aesthetics of the ceremony. The sidewalks on the north & south side of the parade and the paved area in front of the new academic complex should be considered a \”stage\” and the audience is asked to please stand elsewhere.”
