GMC to host JROTC Best Raider Competition and ROTC Open House

Georgia Military College will host a JROTC Best Raider Competition on Saturday, March 12, 2016 on the Oconee River Greenway adjacent to the GMC campus from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Forty-eight Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) teams from across Georgia and Florida will compete for awards in five events:  5K buddy run, raider gauntlet (water can relay, low crawl, tire flip, canoe carry and sand bag relay), cross country rescue, obstacle course, and rope bridge.   Teams will consist of two-person buddy teams in three categories:  male, female and mixed.

The community is invited to attend this event and watch the students compete, but should be aware that the Oconee River Greenway boat ramp will be closed until the event concludes at 12:00 p.m. (boaters may use the ramp at Sinclair Dam or Central State Hospital).

The Georgia Military College Prep School Raider Team has been competing for four years and in 2015 earned the National Championship (Mixed Division).  The team brought home a 2014 state championship and national runner-up honors in the 2014 National JROTC Championship.

GMC will also hold an ROTC Open House on March 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Goldstein Center for the Performing Arts.  Any students, grades 10-12 and their parents are welcome to attend to learn more about opportunities in the U.S. Army and National Guard.  Brigadier General Thomas Carden Jr., Assistant Adjutant General – Army, Georgia Dept. of Defense and Commander of the Georgia Army National Guard will be speaking at 10:30 a.m.
