GMC Shoots in Sectional Rifle Competition

Georgia Military College Rifle Team traveled to the Citadel on Friday, February 21 to begin the defense of their NRA National Championship Title they won last season. The Sectional Competition is the qualifying match that thrusts teams to the national competition that will occur 13-16 March at Ft Benning, GA. The shooting bulldogs shot exceptionally well during their sectional match compiling an impressive 92 point margin better than the team that won the National Title last season. The ROTC Team consisted of Cadet Alexander Bueler, Cadet Cameron Schneberger, Cadet Ariel Vasquez, and Cadet Luke Torres. Their combined score was a solid 2137, as stated above, 92 points better that the team’s score that won the Championship last year. The varsity team consisted of Cameron Smith, Cadet Robin Rochester, Cadet Reginald Kendrick, and Cadet Howard Lane compiling a score of 2028. Coaches Mary Ellen Eaton and LTC (Ret) Duane Clayton believe there is a great opportunity for these shooters to bring another championship home to GMC if they will focus their practice and work to better their current best scores. On 25 February, Mary Ellen Eaton, the rifle instructor, received notification that both GMC teams made the cut for the national competition at Fort Benning, GA. This competition will have the GMC teams competing against teams from the University of Michigan, Clemson University, Purdue University, University of Wisconsin–Osh Kosh, University of Wisconsin–Superior, Penn State University, Canisius College, and many others. This Bull Dog Team has a tremendous opportunity to bring home another NRA National Title as they head to Fort Benning on 13 March to compete against the shooters from these outstanding Colleges and Universities. The Bulldogs next competition is the Southeastern Conference Championship Match that will occur on 8-9 March at the Citadel. The Cadets look to improve their scores during this competition in preparation for their shot at another National Championship the following week.
